How To Get Your Links Read By The Search Engines

The use of keywords in linking text and how your site is listed is very important.

Linking text, sometimes called anchor text is the clickable text that takes people to another page or resource.

The text should always specify what you're linking to. Linking 'about Dog Collars' is better than 'For more information, Click Here'.

Don't use phrases such as "home", "click here" and/or "read more". Avoid these phrases and use keyword rich linking text instead.

This includes linking to pages on your own website as well as linking to other websites.

Google reads your linked text and uses it to understand what you're linking to.

Backlinks are links on other websites that point to your website.

Backlinks are very important for SEO, Google considers them proof that your website is content rich and worth showing!

Here are some strategies for getting backlinks

1. Make sure your backlinks include your website's keywords and describe the page content you're linking to. Example: Top Dog Training Videos.

2. Put your backlinks in articles, social bookmarking sites and blogs as well as putting them in your signature on threads you post in any niche related forums.

3. Google "social media sites" and add your website URL or your articles and blogs to the many social sites such as: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, digg.com, StumbleUpon.com, reddit.com and your YouTube channel. Every time you post then your backlink will be seen. The most popular of these sites are classed as "authority sites" by search engines and have a very high page ranking themselves.

4. Find other blogs on a similar (relevant) topic and add a comment to it. At the end of your comment add a backlink to your own site. Make sure the comment is constructive and relevant, you don't want to seem like a spammer, but rather a trusted authority on your subject.

5. If the page you are creating backlinks for is an article, put a link on any similar articles you have written on the topic.

6. Find a site or blog that's similar or complementary to what you do, and offer to write them a guest blog with a unique perspective or spin that would be interesting to their readers. It's a much slower tactic than directory submissions and the like, but the quality of backlinks it can get you is often much higher.

Removing Bad Backlinks

If you have links you don't want anymore, for any reason, contact the site owner and ask them to remove them. Most will, but of course some you won't get hold of.
