Why You Should Place Articles On Directories

1. The goal of placing articles on directory sites is to get your articles posted on other websites. You want the visitors of these other websites to read your article and click on the link back to your website for more information.

2.  It is beneficial for other websites to post new content in order to let the search engines know this is an active and relevant site. If your article has valuable content, another website will be happy to post your work instead of writing on the topic themselves.

3. The article should be written in a way that directs the reader to your website to get more information, fill out a referral form, buy your product or service, or simply click on ads. Think of it as telling a story and the reader needs to go to your website to find out the ending.

4. To be successful, you must ensure your website does provide helpful information or value to this new visitor. You are now leading the visitor into your Sale's Path.

5. Your article should have your main keyword phrase in your title, and you should refer to it in your first sentence. It should also be seen towards the end of your article. In the middle of the article you should include a related key word phrase. An easy way to determine your key word phrase is by using the Google Keyword Tool. Simply enter in your main key word phrase and look at the related key word phrases that have high search volumes. You can then work it into your article.

6. Your article should contain both your website name and 1 or 2 links back to your website that take visitors into your sales path. One link should go to your main or home page, and the other link should go to a page within your website which has information that relates to the keyword phrase in your article (this is called deep linking).

7.  Article directories normally don't allow the first link to be ‘above the fold’. 'Above the fold' is what you see when you initially view a website page, below the fold is when you have to scroll down to see the rest of the page. Others will only allow links in the Resource Box ( see below for details of Resource Box).

The Submission Process May Vary At Each Directory But The General Process Is As Follows:

articles income1. Register yourself with several article directories. Registration is always free.

2. Take the time to read the directories rules for submitting articles. To really get value from your effort you must abide by their rules.

3. You will have to select a 'category' where your article will be placed, such as; automotive, communications, computers, family, health and fitness etc. and perhaps even a sub-category as well. Be as precise as you can so that people can find your article. They won't be able to find your article on computers if you have listed it in the health and wellness section.

4. The minimum length for many of the article directories is 250-300 words, and many of the ezine publishers prefer articles that are between 100% and 700 words.

5. Do not submit the same article to multiple article directories.  Every article company should receive a unique and original article.

6. When Google crawls though the articles in directories it will penalize websites who submit articles with the same title and same content. This can have a negative effect on your rankings.

You can also do a viral PDF, which is a maybe an article or a how-to directory of some sort that goes viral. And there are lots of ways to set it up. There's actually a product out there called "Viral PDF" that you can look at in order to get your PDF files spread throughout the Internet.

There's also Google Knol, which is an article directory.

How To Write An Article For Directories

Title:  Write a compelling title for your article and make sure it is interesting, catchy, and newsworthy. Try to use your keyword in the headline. If you need inspiration, go visit a magazine stand and see which headlines capture your attention.

Summary or Teaser:  This is your chance to write 2 or 3 lines that people will see along with your title. These lines must peak the readers interest in order for them to read your article

Article: Remember, NO SELLING!  Just informative content, amusing stories, helpful hints, etc., that will make people want to visit your site. Most article directories will only allow you a single link in your article - but make sure you check the directory's policy.

Keywords: Enter in the 'keywords' that you believe will be used by your potential customers to find your article. Remember, an important factor for ranking highly for your search term is to have lots of backlinks (Backlinks are incoming links to your website or web page) using the same search term…. so be consistent! Your article should have your main keyword phrase in your title, and you should refer to it in your first sentence. It should also be seen towards the end of your article. In the middle of the article you should include a related key word phrase. An easy way to determine your key word phrase is by using the Google keyword tool-link. Simply enter in your main key word phrase and look at the related key word phrases that have high search volumes. You can then work it into your article.

Resource Box: This is where you get to do some marketing. You can promote yourself as an 'expert' in your particular field, have links to your website, and have a line or two that actually 'sells' your product or service. Try to include a ‘Call to Action’ as it may increase your click through rate. It should get the reader advance to the next level – and that is to learn more on the topic revealed in your article. For example:  Pet Nutrition – Top 5 foods to extend your pet’s life. If you were a pet owner, you would sure want to know what the top 5 foods were.

Below the resource you should type a statement giving others the right to reprint your article for free as long as the article remains unchanged.
